April 2023 Month Climate Bulletin

During April 2023, days were remained warm over several portions of lowlands of Ethiopia, in particularly Gambela, Afar, Benishangul, pocket areas of Amhara and Oromia. Specifically, the extreme maximum temperature values were as high as 46, 44.6, 43.0 and 42.5 oC over Metema, Goda, Gambella, Lare and Fugnuldo respectively. During April 2023, the monthly rainfall amount exceeded 400 mm or heavier rainfall was occurring over some parts of southeastern Oromia (Ginir).
The monthly total rainfall values of April 2023 were as high as 405.5, 286.6, 272.6, 272.6, 271.4, 266.9 and 259 mm over Ginir, Arjo, Jinka, Masha, Bore, Dilla and Bui respectively. Besides, the daily rainfall values over Kibridahar, Ginir, Arsi Robe, Bore, Jinka, Nefas mewucha, Bui and Ghion stations was 230, 160, 85.3, 75, 72.8, 70, 63.8 and 63 mm respectively. In general, the monthly total rainfall amount of April 2023 was below normal over part of SNNPR, Oromia, Somali and pocket areas of Amhara and Afar regions. On the other hand, the rainfall was above-normal over Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz, most part of Amhara, Tigray, some part of Oromia and Afar regions. All areas of the country except over Tigray, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, some part of Amhara, pocket areas of Afar, Oromia and Somali regions April 2023 was generally wetter than April 2022.
